Why Is My AC Not Cooling My Home?
Having an air conditioning system in your home is a great way to stay cool during the summer months. That is when your air conditioning system is working as it’s supposed to. If your system is no longer cooling your home, it could be a few different problems.
Clogged Air Filter
One of the most common culprits of poor air conditioner cooling is a clogged air filter. Whenever your air filter gets clogged up with debris, it won’t allow the air to freely flow through the filter and get cooled off. Simply pull out your air filter and see if it’s in need of replacement.
Frozen Evaporator Coils
Typically, when your air filter is clogged, it can cause your evaporator coils to freeze up. If you’ve changed your air filter and are still not getting cold air delivered to the rooms inside of your home, it’s time to look at the evaporator coils.
These are found inside the interior air conditioning system. If the coils are indeed frozen, you’ll need to shut your air conditioning system off. Give it a couple of hours for the coils to unfreeze before turning your system back on.
Blocked Condenser Unit
Your air conditioning system has an outdoor condenser unit that works to disperse the warm air from inside of your home. When this unit gets blocked up with outdoor debris like leaves and twigs, it can’t disperse that heat. Cleaning up around the outside of the condenser unit and giving it a good 2 to 3 feet of open space for adequate airflow will solve this problem.
Low Refrigerant
If the information above doesn’t solve your problem, you may have a low refrigerant level. You’ll need to call in an air conditioning professional to check your refrigerant level and have it recharged if it’s low. Your AC pro should also be checking your system for a refrigerant leak so that it can be sealed back up.
