Pre-Winter Furnace Checklist
Winter weather will arrive soon in Bellville, ON. Now is the time to make sure that your furnace is ready to deliver the warm air you need for optimal comfort. At Quinte Air Supply, we’re ready to help you prepare for winter weather with this three-step pre-winter furnace checklist.
1. Program Your Thermostat
Now is a good time to update the settings on your programmable or smart thermostat. If you’ve had it set to cool, you’ll need to switch it over to the auto or heat setting. Consider what your daily schedule is. Set the temperature for comfort while you’re at home. For the times you’re away from home or asleep, adjust the temperature down by at least 2 degrees.
2. Replace Your Carbon Monoxide Detector Batteries
Gas furnaces use a combustion process to heat your home. This process creates waste products that include poisonous carbon monoxide gas. A carbon monoxide detector alerts you if your home has an unhealthy level of it. The batteries should be checked monthly and replaced every six months. Even if your detector is wired into your home’s electrical panel, you still need to replace its batteries. In case of a power outage, the batteries will alert you to unsafe conditions.
3. Change the Air Filter
One of the most important pre-winter maintenance tasks for you to do is change the furnace filter. Check the air filter each month, and replace it as soon as it looks dirty. At a minimum, replace the furnace filter every three months during the cold Belleville winter.
